The list of celebrities that he’s looked
after is as long as his arm – and
now after an absence of ten years,
Stamford Hotels & Resorts welcome
back celebrity hotelier Graeme
Goldberg in the position of Managing
Director responsible for the day to
day running of the Stamford Plaza
in the city and the iconic Stamford
Grand on the foreshore at Glenelg.
Graeme is an award-winning hotelier
with over 45 years experience in the
hotel industry, both internationally
and within Australasia. During his
illustrious career that started at
the tender age of 14 he’s looked
after kings, queens, vagabonds and
He said “it really feels like coming
home” and feels there’s a real buzz
in the air of Adelaide. He’s excited
about all the major developments
that are in the pipeline including the
extension of the Convention Centre,
the beautification of the Riverside
Precinct, major works underway
in Rundle Mall, the redevelopment
of Adelaide Oval with the return
of football and, of course, the
BHP’s Olympic Dam Project which
will benefit all South Australians.
Another reason for him to smile is
that he now has a tram stop right
outside his beloved Plaza.
He has a mandate from his board to
put both Adelaide Stamford Hotels
back to where they belong as the
best five star hotels in Adelaide.
Passion and vision is not enough so
his board has given him a cheque
book in excess of $15 million to get
the job done.
With extensive renovations at the
Plaza on track, including the pool
area and a spend of $200,000 on
the Presidential Suite which looks
fantastic he has turned his eyes to
In the old days he used to bring well
known entertainers to perform in his
Grand Ballroom which worked very
well for in the ballroom it’s up close
and personal. Complete with dinner
and drinks you get to see your
favourite stars in the flesh.
On his first visit he was responsible
for bringing Pat Boone, Mickey
Rooney, Jimmy Barnes, Jose
Feliciano, Rita Coolidge and many
others to the Grand.
This time on March 29 he’s
kicking off the cabaret with Petula
Clark complete with three course
dinner and full beverage package
for $180pp or $90pp show only.
“We’ve just gone to press and we’re
half full, or is that half empty? So
thank you Adelaide for the support”
Other upcoming acts under
negotiation include David Cassidy,
Engelbert Humperdinck, The Village
People, Don McLean and, on stage
together for the first time, Percy
Sledge and Ben E King.
Graeme has also been talking to the
Mayor of Holdfast Bay to use the
foreshore for bigger concerts. He
wants to bring opera to the Bay and
also strings to the Bay. “I can just
see it – people with their rugs and
little hampers sitting in the twilight
listening to classical music” he said.
