Founded in 1850, Bleasdale Winery
at Langhorne Creek is steeped in
history and is listed on the State and
National Heritage Registers.
The original owner, Frank Potts,
sailed to South Australia on the HMS
Buffalo in 1836. He bought the first
section of land offered for sale at
Langhorne Creek and planted shiraz
and verdelho vines.
A visit to the cellars is like a lesson
in winemaking history. Constructed
of red gum and limestone, the
cellars house the old red gum
vats and some equipment used by
previous generations. The splendid
red gum lever press, hand sawn in
the 1890s, is well worth a look.
Today the winery uses the latest
technology but maintains the Potts
philosophy of producing honest,
consistent, reliable wines which
receive accolades worldwide.
The winery is open for cellar door
sales 10am -5pm every day, except
Christmas Day and Good Friday.
