The music of Sammy Davis Jr is celebrated in
the high energy show Candy Man which opens in
Adelaide on April 14.
The sophisticated song and dance experience
has been created by and stars Australia's singing
and dancing dynamo Wayne Scott Kermond.
Sammy Davis Jr was one of the world's greatest
entertainers and the show takes the audience
on a journey from his early start in Vaudeville
through to his Rat Pack days performing in Las
Vegas, Broadway and in film and television.
Multi-talented Mo Award winner Kermond has
captured the feel-good essence and energy of
Davis and his imagination, talent and creativity
bring to life the complete "Sammy experience".
In Candy Man Kermond is joined on stage by a
big show band and a cast of leading Australian
musical theatre dancers. The show includes the
great songs and moves that made Sammy a star,
including the Soft Shoe Shuffle, The Lady is a
Tramp, Birth of the Blues, West Side Story, Mr
Bojangles, Gonna Build a Mountain, Rhythm of
Life and, of course, The Candy Man.
Conceived and written by Kermond, musical
direction is by Mark Taylor and creative
development assistance by Kerie Biddell.
Wayne's partner Katie Kermond is dance
director, with lighting and production designs
by Stephen Wickham and choreography by a
team of some of Australia's best musical theatre
dancers and choreographers.
